EEK - Bats!
I know this may seem more like a topic for Halloween, but I just had to share an interesting experience I had this weekend, one I never thought in a million years would happen to us.

Watching the world go by
I have always been what some would call a watcher. I guess being a writer, I've always been inclined to look at the world and find the fine details that make it special. Whether it's the beauty of a sunset or the amazing texture of an insect's wings, I've always liked to look and be amazed.

Living Lent
This past week we, meaning my fellow Catholics and myself, observed the first day of lent. Ash Wednesday has always been a solemn day in our family. It's the start of the no meat Fridays and trying to make it to confession more often than we have in the past few months.

The last weeks of craziness
I don't know if I ever thought this election would be so crazy. I guess I should have known it was going to be a rollercoster ride during the primary and fight for the Democratic presidential seat.

A few thrills and chills
I have never been one that likes to be scared. In fact, I'm kind of a sissy. I hate staying home alone at night, I get scared walking home alone in the dark and I rarely like watching scary movies. My brothers always liked watching the slasher films. I'd always make some excuse to slip away to my room and find something else to do.

Deadly assault with a sausage?
I had to listen twice when I heard this headline come across the radio waves while I was driving to work the other day. Did they say deadly assault with a sausage?

Home sweet home?

I just returned from vacation in beautiful Door County. I have to admit, it was hard coming back. The week we had up north brought perfect weather and lots of sunshine. No kidding - it was sunny and in the 70s every day until our last day there. It made it the perfect environment for tons of hiking and outdoor fun. A much needed break from my life behind the desk.

Waiting on a prayer
I have been without a car for about a week now, and I'm starting to get a bit stir crazy. I knew I was in trouble when my front window fogged up completely, leaving me only enough of a hole to see my way to the side of the road. My real problem came when I turned off my car and a lake of antifreeze formed underneath it.

Read any good books lately?
I love to read, but lately it seems like there is less and less time to pick up a good book and venture off into other lands.

Malibu of the Midwest
We've always been the type of family to vacation close to home. When I was growing up, my dad always took the first two weeks in August off, and we would head out on our family vacation.

The jewels in the hardware store
I have to admit, I used to avoid the hardware store when I was a kid. Dad would make his trips there and I'd always find somewhere else to be so I wouldn't have to go.
